The Community of Koh Yao Noi
You think the time stands still on the island. Friendly people and
a warm welcome everywhere.
Most of the doors are not locked and you feel the happiness and
laid back feeling which is nowadays lost on most of the other,
overcrowded islands.
People here living in the world apart and this should be preserved
and supported.

Community Based Tourism on Koh Yao Noi
"CBT is tourism that takes environmenta, social and cultural
sustainability into account. It is managed and owned by the
community, for the community, with the purpose of enabling
visitors to increase their awareness and learn about the
community and local ways of life." REST, 1997
Community-based tourism does not simply seek to maximise profits
for investors. Rather, it is more concerned with the impact
of tourism on the community and the environment. CBT emerges
from a community development strategy, using tourism as a tool
to strengthen community organisation through community-wide
participation.
Unfortunately the influence of Mass-Consumerism is precipitating
the degradation and destruction of natural resources crucial to
local communities livelihoods. Wherever possible Niramaya is also
contribute to community projects (helping to preserve traditional
ways of life, providing education and supporting environmental
initiatives) and, if practical, encourage you to visit or even lend
a helping hand.
We try to ensure that all our trips not only minimise the negative
effects of tourism but actually have a positive impact on the
communities who welcome us into their villages and often their
homes.
